Cornwall's rich heritage uncovered
Tolgus Mill is a national treasure restored by Madam Tussauds, and latterly, the Trevithic Trust.
The original tin streaming mill includes some of the last remaining examples of this historic technology.
The shaking tables are an example of how ingenuity was put to work to take the strain out of panning for tin.
The round table is the last surviving example of this tin extraction device.
All the machinery in the mill was assembled to extract residue tin particles from the river that runs throughout the heart of Treasure Park.
These residues spilt over from mines further upstream, allowing Tolgus' enterprising individuals to earn a meagre living.
As many locals will testify, the pay was poor but the work was exhilirating. Tin was after all "Cornish Gold".
Tolgus Mill features a trail which guides you past the most important machinery. The story of those who operated it is told by a sequence of video screens.
You can also take advantage of our iPod Audio Guide if you require a virtual conducted tour.
There is a store from which you can buy publications covering the history of the mill and cornish tin.
A range of souvenirs completes this trip into the past.
